Lunch: Beef Kaldereta

I've been craving for beef kaldereta for a couple of days now, but there's no Filipino restaurant around here in my area so I decided to make my own na lang.

Went to the grocery store this morning to buy the ingredients. I usually cook it using the kaldereta mix, but I just have to make it from scratch this time.

Like I've said before, I'm gonna share some of my cooking adventures here in my blog cuz I'm planning to make a book out of all my recipes one day and use it for my own benefit para di ko rin makalimutan.

So here I'm sharing my own version of beef kaldereta. Enjoy! (kahit sa picture man lang)

What I need...(di ko na sasabihin ang exact amount ng mga ito kc it depends naman to your taste how much you wanna put)

beef cut into cubes
onion
tomato
garlic
olive oil
pineapple juice
liverwurst or liver paste
soy sauce
knorr beef bouillon
tomato sauce
tomato paste

vetsin
red chilli peppers
green bell pepper
red bell pepper
green peas

potatoes
carrots

sharp cheese

First off, I bring the beef to boil kasi beef takes a while until tender. Then, drain the water to get rid of too much grease. While boiling, I use this time to prepare the veggies..

Chop the onions and tomatoes...

..the bell peppers and carrots, and potatoes

After done preparing, I take the beef out of the casserole and transfer it to a frying pan. Pour like 2 tsb of olive oil then I fry the beef turning it until it's brown.

When it's brown, I transfer it back to the casserole.

Add the onions, garlic and tomatoes.

Pour 2-3 cups of pineapple juice. I use pineapple juice instead of water to get that tangy taste.
[Usually nga dapat marinate ng overnight ang beef sa pineapple juice para mas tasty but I just didn't have time to do that.]

Bring to a boil...

Add the potatoes..

and carrots..

..and green peas..this is optional by the way.

And let it simmer for like 5 mins..

Add tomato paste and tomato sauce. Also add bay leaves, soy sauce, vetsin, red chilli peppers, beef bouillon to taste. Another optional ingredient is liverwurst or liver paste.

Brng to boil and simmer again until the veggies are cooked..

Lastly, add sharp cheese then bring to a boil.

Serve it with freshly cooked white rice.

There it is my beef kaldereta for lunch! Yum!

That's sooooooo YUM, Diane. Super kakagutom! It's also good that you were taking shots of the step-by-step process while you're cooking the Caldereta. That's going to be really helpful to those who want to learn how to cook. Keep those recipes coming.

Wow sarap naman nyan! Ma-try ko nga rin magluto one day!.. Ganda ng sulat ah! Cursive! happy mother's day to your mom!

MsDianeG said...

@Mela, you can do the tag whenever you have time. I'm not pressuring you, hehe..Aliw nga basahin ang blog mo eh. You should post more entries there! hehe..

@Russ, yup I want to take step by step pics cuz it also helps me remember how i did it. sometimes i forget too what or how i did in a certain dish kasi. ;)

@Ghee, you should try this recipe one day, hehe..though you really have to use your own judgment as to how much you're gonna add in those ingredients. Depende kasi sa panlasa yan.

Thanks! ;)

Oh my goodness! Beef Kaldereta is one of my favorite Filipino foods! My mommy makes a superb Kaldereta, sobrang lambot ng beef tapos maanghang. Mukhang masarap ang luto mo. Sorry pero nakakagutom talaga especially when you said that you added cheese!

Some of my friends who are cooking Filipino food in the States biggest problem is getting the ingredients right. My cousin, who's in Sweden, said that when she tries cooking a Filipino delicacy, parang iba daw ang nagiging lasa. I hope you didn't have the same dilemma.

I'll do your tag on my off. Parang pang-greeting card ang penmanship mo :)

MsDianeG said...

@vayie, wala naman akong problemang ganun. esp. if i'm home, there are filipino stores there and i get my ingredients na pinoy na pinoy dun. kaya same pa rin ang lasa. yun nga lang here in SM there's not a lot of filipino stores kaya pag umuuwi ako dun pa ako nag-go-grocery ng pinoy items. Mas masarap pa rin kc, for example soy sauce or vinegar, mas malasa pa rin ang pinoy brand kesa brands dito.
