Who wants to nurse this nurse?

- Last night was my first time to admit a patient who had a fetal demise. In other words, the baby died couple of hours after birth because of a condition or a congenital anomaly called "Potters Syndrome". (Here's more info about this disorder.) This is a condition wherein the baby was born without a kidney or has a malfunctioning of it. So last night, the mom requested to have her lifeless baby with her inside the room until the mortuary comes and transport the baby. I went inside the room and assessed the mom, while she's holding her baby. Baby was dressed up and swaddled. Looked like a real baby, but this time it's not breathing, not moving, grayish in color and lifeless. It was my first time to see a dead baby up close. I know it sounds so grotesque in a way but it was what happened last night. It was a little eerie and it took a while until I got the images out of my head. It was just too sad. Life is too short. And sometimes it's really short, for a baby who wasn't even given a chance to live. People must live their lives to the fullest. :(

- I'm still not feeling well. Today I decided to call-in for work. Since I better stay home than get the babies sick. Still congested, have sore throat, and headache. DayQuil for the day and NyQuil knocks me out at night. Sure I need to get plenty of rest. But I think I have to rest another complete day to be able to function 100% at work again. It's the hardest thing if you work and you're not feeling well. And it sucks to be sick when you're alone in the house.

Today I still managed to make some Arroz caldo for lunch. I know I needed soup, and it is always good if you're not feeling well.

So this is just how I made it..

Boil the rice with 6-8 cups of water. Dapat "sticky rice" or "kaning malagkit" but if you don't have it, regular white rice is okay.

While doing that, boil the eggs on a separate pot. Afterwards, peel the shells then add the hard-boiled eggs to the soup.

Then sautee chicken thighs with onions, ginger, and garlic until the chicken is brown.

When chicken's all cooked, add the chicken and onions and everything in the boiling rice. And also add the hard-boiled eggs. If you have green onion leaves, that would be good too. I just didn't have it.

There it is. Arroz caldo..made me feel better. :)

And it always helps to drink hot tea. This is the cup that defines what I do, but who wants to nurse this nurse?

Hope tomorrow I will feel so much better.

Have a good day/night everyone!

That's sad babe. I actually read this last night but didn't comment until today. Hope the parents of that baby will be ok.

That arroz caldo really looks good. Everytime you post a food recipe here my mouth starts to water. What's worse is that I'm really hungry and just waiting for my rice to cook so I can have some leftover beef steak.

Get better!

Oww. That's sad. Seeing a dead baby up-close. It would really take time to shake that image off your mind. It just crushes your heart at the sight of that. Babies are so helpless.

I hope you feel better, D. Everyone seem so sick these days. Take it easy. It's hard to find a nurse to nurse a nurse, if you know what I mean.

@Melanie, thanks ha. I'm feeling so much better today.

@Vayie, yeah sinabi mo..kakalungkot talaga. :(
I'm feeling so much better naman today. I think it's the weather also that makes people sick.

Hi Diane, I hope you're feeling better after the Arozcaldo (kaya lang naoverpower yung luto mo nung baby-incident sa post).

True, It's not easy to feeling sick when you're alone. Whoelse is there to comfort us, kahit you know how to take care of yourself, right? As much as possible mawalan na lang ako ng pang-shopping but don't want to get sick.

Ingats Diane, I'm still coughing here, taking lots of fluids doesn't help feeling bloated na ako sa tubig.

@K, true that, kahit walang pang-shopping as long as we're in good health. Di ba? It's probably the weather. Something's in the air why people are getting sickly.

@Rich, thanks I'm feeling so much better na.
Yeah that was really sad entry. I hope I don't encounter that again in a long time. It leaves a really sad feeling even after I've left work.
