And I believe in love...

I feel like sharing this little something I received in email. It's really worth a read...

This is a poem written by a teenager with cancer. She wants to see how many people get her poem. It is quite the poem. Please pass it on.
This poem was written by a terminally ill young girl in a New York Hospital.
It was sent by a medical doctor -
Make sure to read what is in the closing statement AFTER THE POEM.

SLOW DANCE

Have you ever watched kids
On a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain
Slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
You better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.
The music won't last.
Do you run through each day
On the fly?

When you ask How are you?
Do you hear the reply?
When the day is done

Do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores
Running through your head?
You'd better slow down

Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

Ever told your child,
We'll do it tomorrow?
And in your haste,
Not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die
Cause you never had time
To call and say,'Hi'

You'd better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift....Thrown away.

Life is not a race.

Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over.

Isn't it a beautiful poem?

Chicken curry

Here's another recipe that I did the other day for lunch, my own version of chicken curry!

What I need: curry powder, green and red bell peppers, onions, garlic, ginger, coconut milk, fish sauce, potatoes, raisins, bay leaves, and of course chicken.

I have to boil the chicken first and drain after first boil to get rid of all that extra grease. Then sautee the chicken with the veggies.

I add a little garlic powder for more taste. Alam nyo ba I also add chicken bouillon for extra flavor.

Then add coconut milk. Can also add evaporated milk kung wala kayong coconut milk, but coconut is the best for this.

I don't really cut the skin of my red potatoes because don't you know the skin is very high in fiber! That's good to eat that.

Boil it for like 5 minutes, then add the curry, 2-3 tablespoons depending on your taste.

Optional ang raisins, but i really want it to give it a little sweet taste. :)

Simmer for 5-10 minutes until the potatoes are good to go.

Yumm! I love chicken curry! :)

I have no new recording lately for I have been extreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeemely busy at work. So this one was recorded a while back with the old mic and one of the "unreleased" songs that I have, hehe..Just reminded me of this song when the first lines highlighted happened at work earlier, hehe...

Coming around again

Baby sneezes
Mommy pleases
Daddy breezes in
So good on paper
So romantic
But so bewildering

I know nothing stays the same
But if you're willing to play the game
It's coming around again
So don't mind if I fall apart
There's more room in a broken heart (broken heart)

You pay the grocer
Fix the toaster
You kiss the host goodbye
Then you break a window
burn the Souffle
Scream the lullaby

I know nothing stays the same (stays the same)
But if you're willing to play the game (play the game)
It's coming around again
So don't mind if I fall apart
There's more room in a broken heart

And I believe in love
But what else can I do
I'm so in love with you

I know nothing stays the same (stays the same)
But if you're willing to play the game (play the game)
It will be coming around again

(I, I believe in love)(Baby sneezes)
(I believe in love)(Mommy pleases)
(I believe in love)(Daddy breezes in)

I know nothing stays the same
But if you're willing to play the game
It will be coming around again

I believe in love. I believe in love. That it's coming around again...

Coming around again - Diane de Mesa

It's been a while!

I'm back!

I haven't posted a "real" entry since I came home last week. Thank God I'm off today so I can update you with what's going on, or what happened (rather) in my mini-vacay last week.

So this is gonna be a kind of a long accumulation of posts about the events that happened in my homecoming.

Sister's Graduation

5.22.09_Rachel graduated with her Industrial Engineering degree. I'm so proud of her! It's a very hard major! Especially math yan, my weakest subject, hehe.. I'd rather memorize, really. :)

Grad ceremony @ the SJSU Event Center

Isn't that the look of "happiness"? She's happy she's done with school! Yeah!!

My sister's bf (Jun) also graduated with Electrical Engineering degree. That's so sweet, they finished at the same time!

family

sisters

another look of pure happiness, haha..:D

After the ceremony, we had the celebration at home...

Here's the ice cream cake that I got for the engineer!

lechon..yum!

And of course, what's a party without the karaoke!

My mommy started it with her favorite videoke song, "There's a kind of hush", hehe..

And we had lots of singers that night....

and took more pictures....

with Ngoc

Rach also sampled her drum-beating in the garage..I don't know how to play drums. :( It's hard.

Congratulations again to my sister! Mwah!

Bowling

Saturday night was bowling night with friends @ 300 San Jose! Nice to hang-out with them again!

Sure this place looked a lot better now. Parang nasa bar ka, bowling nga lang. You can also order food and drinks, like this we got...

french fries, sweet potato fries, and chips....while waiting for out turn to play

strike a pose muna before eh, hehe..

strike yan! hehehe..

--------------//

Lechon Paksiw recipe

Since we had a lot of leftover from the lechon from the party, I decided to make a paksiw out of it.

Here's another recipe entry. This is actually my first time to try to cook this and it actually came out really good. Thanks to my grandpa (tatay) for the instructions, hehe.. :)

Just have to "himay-himay" the lechon to pieces.

Then pour the sauce or "Mang Tomas" will also do for the flavor.

add soy sauce to taste

and also vinegar to taste

garlic...but if you don't have the actual garlic, the powder version will do.

then add brown sugar (or white), but i prefer brown sugar.

and more "Mang Tomas" to make it more tasty..

let it simmer...it gets thicker the longer it boils.

There it is! My version of Lechon Paksiw! And that fed 10+ people hehe..Ang dami nyan ah! :)

---------//

Last moments with Mikey!

He gets cuter everytime. I miss my little brother Mikey. :(

He was so behave in the party. Di na sya takot sa tao ngayon. Unlike before that he always barks at strangers.

Then it's time to leave again...to my other home.

Now back in SM. And back to work!

---------//

Speaking of work.......

Crazy at work!

I just read from our hospital newspaper that our unit delivers at least 300 babies in 1 month, more than any hospital here in the Santa Barbara/San Luis Obispo counties. Isn't that really crazy??? That's why we get really busy in there. Sheez..

Low census, comes really once in a blue moon. It was slow and now it's catching up on us. The bus has made its stop and looks like it's here to stay for a couple of days. Hopefully it gets not too crazy anymore. It just seems like this past couple of days, we've been having very "heavy" cases and complicated patients. Haaay...

Work's been kicking me in the butt eversince I came back. Seriously.

Btw...

The other day, there was a "patient" who claimed that she is 37 weeks pregnant. But then, when the doctor checked her and ran some labs and ultrasound, found out that she is NOT pregnant at all! Crazy huh?

This is the sign that's posted in our floor, for she's a suspicious patient. We had to carefully watch our babies because she was seen in our floor 3 times this month already. For all we know, maybe she's just looking for a right time to abduct a baby. Oh my, everyone's really cautious with this woman! I heard that she needed to undergo psychiatric evaluation. I don't know what happened after that because she was discharged.

Goodness gracious!

That's all for tonight.

Later, peeps!

One year (special blog edition)

Nostalgic/reminiscing mode...

Wow time flies! Can you believe it, it's already been a year today since I've graduated and been out of school!

Dati isa lang akong hamak na estudyante, trying to survive nursing school...sleepless nights of studying, never-ending research papers, presentations, clinicals, skills lab, finals overnight studying, intense stress! etc etc.

There were even times I thought I will not make it through. Haaaay...

Semester 4 - MedSurg Clinical

Semester 5 - Brain trauma/Rehab

Semester 6 - OB/Pediatrics

Semester 7 - Public health/Community clinical

and Psych clinical

and Semester 8 - Preceptorship

and the Semester 8 graduating seminar class

These are my batchmates na may kanya-kanya na ring mga buhay ngayon. I wonder where the others work now. Buti naman some of them, I still have contact through facebook/myspace and our yahoogroup na ako rin ang nagmo-moderate.

And of course...

I remember the GRADUATION, May 24th, 2008, It's been a year ago from today. Back then, it was the happiest day of my life! This was when I'm one step away from being an RN. I finally made it! :)

The event made it even more special because I sang the National Anthem. :)

And I love seeing my name in the slideshow during the ceremony.

and celebrated the special event with the most important people in my life.

My classmate/friend Leah is now my coworker (and ex-roommate). How interesting di ba? Who would've known our friendship is gonna take us to another level.

After the graduation ay umpisa na ng madugong pagre-review para sa NCLEX boards...studied my-ass-off all day long.......2 months rin akong nagdusa dito, hehehehe...

But all the hardwork and patience has its rewards when I PASSED the NCLEX the first try! The computer shut-down at the minimum 75 questions pa, thank God! I can't imagine staying in the exam room completing the whole 275 questions.

Woot! And I officially became a...

Then started looking for a job that was craaaazy! Started attending job interviews but has gotten rejected left and right. Major reason is the bad economy that is still happening until now.

Even got offered a job all the way at Carlsbad, New Mexico with Leah. But fortunately I turned it down! Yes I'm so glad I turned it down. There's more to offer coming right up..

Although it was tough looking for a job right after post-NCLEX life, I'm happy that I got a job in the unit of my dreams, the Obsetrics/Mother-Baby! It officially makes me a mother-baby nurse.

However this welcomes a new start in my life because as the fortune cookie says it at that time, "There are big changes ahead for you."

As we all know, the economy has been a big factor why there aren't any available jobs in the bay area where I live. Doors opened and I had to move away from home to work in Santa Maria.

This welcomes my independence, and I'm truly loving every minute of it. No rules to follow, I have the privacy and freedom to do what I want. At least I'm doing very good at it. I've never known I could be this strong away from my family. Being independent made me discover something more about myself.

Though sometimes I get sad missing my loved ones, and of course, my pom-chi Mikey, it's different kind of "happy" being an independent person that I thought was just so impossible before.

Working as an RN...

Now I'm in the real world. It's still stressful, but in the different kind of intensity. More responsibilites I have to face now and just trying to survive every shift protecting my license. 'Cause you know, whatever I do, my license or my "ass" is on-the-line.

I admit though, I love this feeling of working and going home without worrying to study in any exams or doing any homework or papers. I love working and of course making money! :)

One year after, I can't totally call myself a "new grad" anymore. :D

It just takes a moment for a little reminiscing to appreciate all the little blessings that came my way, one year after I'm out of school.

And I thank God for all the blessings. :)

Reposts

On blog break...

I'm home for a couple of days and to celebrate my sister's graduation. She's graduating with her Industrial Engineering degree tomorrow or shall I say later tonight. We're also having our family reunion at the same time. I was reading my old blog the other day when I was visiting my aunt in Santa Barbara and had nothing to do. I thought why not post these entries again? We need some humor in our lives from time to time.

IF...

You believe every patient needs TLC: Thorazine, Lorazepam and Compazine.

You would like to meet the inventor of the call light in a dark alley one night. - I agree

You believe not all patients are annoying ~ some are unconscious. - I agree

Your sense of humor seems to get more "warped" each year.

You know the phone numbers of every late night food delivery place in town by heart.

You can only tell time with a 24 hour clock. - I agree, military time!

Almost everything can seem humorous ... eventually. - I agree, but I don't get to that point yet.

When asked, "What color is the patient's diarrhea?", you show them your shoes.

Every time you walk, you make a rattling noise because of all the scissors and clamps in your pockets. - haha..I agree..including bunch of pens, tape and alcohol wipes...

You can tell the pharmacist more about the medicines he is dispensing you than he can.

You carry "spare" meds in your pocket rather than wait for pharmacy to deliver. - can't do that in our hospital!

You refuse to watch ER because it's too much like the real thing and triggers "flash backs." - Nah but I love Grey's Anatomy, haha..

You check the caller ID when the phone rings on your day off to see if someone from the hospital is trying to call to ask you to work. - LOL! I agree!

You've been telling stories in a restaurant and had someone at another table throw up.

You notice that you use more four letter words now than before you became a nurse. - Umm..I don't really swear, but when it's stressful it really makes me...so I'm kind of guilty of this.

Every time someone asks you for a pen, you can find at least three of them on you. - haha..like I said...

You can intubate your friends at parties.

You don't get excited about blood loss...unless it's your own. - uhuh..

You live by the motto, "To be right is only half the battle, to convince the physician is more difficult."

You've basted your Thanksgiving turkey with a Toomey syringe or an asepto.

You've told a confused patient your name was that of your coworker and to HOLLER if they need help.

Eating microwave popcorn out of a clean bedpan is perfectly natural.

Also drinking from a clean urinal is completely normal. - eww no..

Your bladder can expand to the same size as a Winnebago's water tank. - yeah..it's hard but it happens when it gets crazy busy!

When checking the level of orientation of a patient, you aren't sure of the answer.

You find yourself checking out other customer's arm veins in grocery waiting lines.

You can sleep soundly at the hospital cafeteria table during dinner, break, sitting up and not be embarrassed when you wake up.

You avoid unhealthy looking shoppers in the mall for fear that they'll drop near you and you'll have to do CPR on your day off.

You've sworn you're going to have "NO CODE" tattooed on your chest.

GREAT TRUTHS LITTLE CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED:

1) No matter how hard you try, you can't baptize cats.
2) When your Mom is mad at your Dad, don't let her brush your hair.
3) If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always catch the second person.
4) Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato.
5) You can't trust dogs to watch your food.
6) Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair.
7) Never hold a Dust-Buster and a cat at the same time.
8) You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.
9) Don't wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts.
10) The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap.*

**GREAT TRUTHS THAT ADULTS HAVE LEARNED:

1) Raising teenagers is like nailing Jell-O to a tree.
2) Wrinkles don't hurt.
3) Families are like fudge...mostly sweet, with a few nuts.
4) Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
5) Laughing is good exercise. It's like jogging on the inside.
6) Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fiber, not the toy.

**GREAT TRUTHS ABOUT GROWING OLD

1) Growing up is mandatory; growing old is optional.
2) Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.
3) When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you're down there.
4) You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster. //lolz
5) It's frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions.
6) Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.
7) Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.*

**THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE:

1) You believe in Santa Claus.
2) You don't believe in Santa Claus.
3) You are Santa Claus.
4) You look like Santa Claus.*

**SUCCESS:

At age 4 success is . . not peeing in your pants.
At age 12 success is having friends.
At age 16 success is . . . having a drivers license.
At age 35 success is . having money.
At age 50 success is . . . having money.
At age 70 success is . . . having a drivers license.
At age 75 success is . having friends.
At age 80 success is . not peeing in your pants.

*Pass this on to someone who could use a laugh.

Always remember to forget the troubles that pass your way; BUT NEVER forget
the blessings that come each day.
**Have a wonderful day with many *smiles***

**Take the time to live!!!
Life is too short*

Instructions for life

My nursing professor shared this to us back in nursing school. Thought I'd share...

1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

2. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.

3. Follow the three R's:

Respect for self and others.
Responsibility for all your actions.
Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.

5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.

6. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

7. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

8. Spend some time alone.

9. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.

10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
-----------//
You Might Be a Nurse if...

- when using a public restroom, you wash your hands with soap for a full minute and turn off the faucets with your elbows.
- when you tell a man you meet for the first time you're a nurse, you're expected to laugh hysterically when he asks you for a sponge bath, as if it was the most original and wittiest thing you've ever heard.
- your favorite dream is the one where you leave a mess at a patient's bedside and tell a doctor to clean it up.
- men assume you must be great in bed because of the 9 billion porn movies about nurses.
- everyone, including complete strangers, tells you about each and every ache and pain they have.
- you want to put your foot through the TV screen every time you see a nurse on a soap opera doing nothing but talking on the phone and flirting with doctors.
- you can almost SEE the germs on doorknobs and telephones.
- you can watch the goriest movie and eat anything afterwards, even spaghetti with lots of tomato sauce.
- you use a plastic 30cc medicine cup for a shot glass.

You Know that You Are a Nurse When...

... discussing dismemberment over a gourmet meal seems perfectly normal.
... you compliment a complete stranger on his veins.
... you find yourself betting on someone's alcohol level.
... you know that K-Y jelly is optional.
-------------//

Signs of getting old

- Chillin' at a lounge, happy hour or dinner party is more appealing than going clubbing.
(Yup, i used to enjoy clubbing when i just turned 21. Now, not anymore..esp that i dont really drink.)

- When you do go clubbing, you feel like a fish out of water.
(And wanna go home soon. Geez, I'd rather stay home seriously.)

- It takes 2 days to recuperate from a RARE night of drunkenness.
(Can't relate. First & last time i got drunk was when i turned 22 and that was all out of "peer pressure" cuz friends ordered me bunch of drinks and I had no idea that my tolerance was the lowest, so i ended up celebrating my bday inside the ladies' room..yuck! Never happened again.)

- Going out on a weekday is absolutely taboo, while going out three days in a row is impossible.
(True.)

- Hanging out at Barnes and Noble is totally awesome.
(the best description of me, especially i studied there (or Borders) most of the time during nursing school. Lol!)

- Your social calendar is replaced with weddings, kid birthdays, and family events.

- You clean out your closet and throw away midriffs, short shorts, and anything too tight.

- Granny panties become the most comfortable clothing in the world. (Lol, hindi naman..haha..)

- Afternoon naps become a requirement.

- The only way to keep up with what's cool these days is through your little sister, little brother, AND little nephew.

- Your high school music becomes labeled as old school slow jams.
(Hehehe...talk about Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, 98 degrees, Westlife, Boyzone, Nsync, etc.)

- Rap starts sounding like noise and STAR 98.7 becomes one of the your top 3 radio stations.
(Sheez, it has always been a NOISE to me.)

- You start calling teenagers and college types "These kids..."
(Yeah..)

- Boys 25 years and below look cute, but only as boy toys.
(Hmm, don't know..)

- You ignore bad boys and suddenly get attracted to the "nice" ones.

- You become aware that muffin top is not just for breakfast.

- Eye creams, healthy eats, and exercise become A MUST, not a choice.
(Yup but good thing I can exercise at work, lots of workout at work! And forced diet sometimes.)

- You realize "Dammit! My mother IS right!"
(Ahuh..So true.)

- You recognize that quarterly life crisis does exist! SUCKS.
(Maybe, hope it's not so bad.)

10 THINGS I WANT TO DO BEFORE I DIE:

- Did this list couple of years back. By now I highlighted the ones that I have accomplished already:

Instructions: Give 10 things you would want to do before you die. Steer clear from the sappy and redundant. Make it as funny (but honest) and as original as possible, No explanations needed:

In random order:

1. Graduate with my BS in Nursing next year and find a stable job.

2. Go back to Philippines for vacation. Visit friends and relatives once again. And yes, probably will have the chance to eat the cravings (santol, lansones, etc) I've been desiring forever, hehe...

3. Buy a house for my family.

4. Tour Europe and/or Asia.

5. Record a cd of my song compositions.

6. Put a music to all my songs.

7. Move out and live on my own.

8. Somewhere along the line will get married, have family and have at least 2 kids.

9. Be in a musical theater or band (again).

10. Live a simple life yet having privacy and space that I need.

-- marami pa ring di natutupad but I have my whole life ahead of me. there's no rushing here. :)

Have a good day/night people!

Now that I've found you

Random

- My blackberry pearl cell is being very very bad lately, as in being very sluggish. It's always showing that "hourglass" figure and when it does that, it's impossible to do anything! Can't even cancel it and I always have to take the battery out to save myself from misery waiting for that hourglass to disappear and finish loading whatever.

I'm really tempted to get this phone but it's so out of the budget right now. Sheez almost $400:

But if I upgrade with T-Mobile i can get it with a discounted price. But I'm gonna have to extend my contract again for 2 years. Boo! Major minus points because I don't want to extend another 2 yrs with T Mobile. I'm getting CRAPPY signal especially in the hospital. No signal at all, as in nada. So no, i'm not gonna extend.

- It's so nice outside. This kind of weather makes me want to go to the beach or pool to swim. There's a pool in the condo compound, but sheez I don't wanna go there by myself.

- Buti pa ang aking mga sis back home, they're gonna go swimming at kasama pa nila si Mikey.

Carissa texted this to me a while ago. It's too hot daw over there in SJ. Siguro nga kasi I barely see Mikey like this.

- So since I can't go swimming here, instead I'm indulging myself with Chocolate Mood from Jamba..

- I'm excited for my mini-vacation for my sister's graduation, and I'm coming home.

- And when I'm home maybe I can catch these movies, and I wanna see these upcoming flicks as well..

It might be you...

1) Matagal-tagal na rin tayong magkakilala. Ang gaan-gaan ng loob ko sayo. Wish we can be friends pero parang may "wall" ka kasi eh. I want to get to know you pa naman sana.

2) Proud na proud ako sayo! Hindi biro ang major na tatapusin mo. I'm really so proud of you!

3) Kaya hindi naman ako nagda-dalawang isip na tulungan ka is because you really show naman na you appreciate all my help. And with that, I'm glad to help whenever you need me. :)

4) You're always whiney, grabe! I hope you can act like your age and not always "me, me, me". Like that song, i wanna sing "I see your true colors shining through.." talaga pero your true colors isn't nice from what i see.

5) I wish you'll stop partying like crazy. Maybe it's time naman na ayusin mo ang buhay mo. You're not getting any younger. Grabe!

6) I can't believe you forgot my birthday na nagdaan. You never forgot it for crying out loud. Hanggang ngayon I can't get over it. Siguro nga may kanya-kanya na tayong buhay ngayon at masaya ka na. Wish i can say i'm happy for you. I just wish...

7) Natatawa ako talaga..ang lakas ng sense of humor mo! Yung mga hirit mo hanggang ngayon makes me laugh hahaha...

8) Hope what happened serves you a lesson and attend to all your priorities first before all the other extra-curriculars.

9) Ang bait-bait mo talaga. You're the nicest person I've ever met...

10) I'm terribly missing you...more than words can ever say.

Baby, now that I've found you
I can't let you go
I'll build my world around you
I need you so

You don't need me

Baby, now that I've found you
I can't let you go
I'll build my world around you
I need you so
Baby, even though you don't need me
You don't need me

Baby, baby, since first we met
I knew in this heart of mine (I wanna tell you)
The love we had could not be bad
Play it right and bide my time
Spent a lifetime looking for somebody
To give me love like you
Now you've told me that you wanna leave me
Darling, I just can't let you...

I haven't followed this show since it started the season, since I work in the PMs and there's just no way. And I also cannot catch up with online streaming. I usually just get the dvd when it's out then I will have a GA marathon. Oh no..Izzie is gonna have a brain surgery. I hope she doesn't die. She's a main character in the show..

Sheez, okay I'm gonna tune-in now......

For the meantime, here's a song for you guys. My version of...

Heaven

Oh, thinking about all our younger years
There was only you and me
We were young and wild and free

Now nothing can take you away from me
we've been down that road before
But that's over now
You keep me coming back for more

[Chorus]
Baby you're all that I want
When you're lying here in my arms
I'm finding it hard to believe
We're in heaven
And love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isn't too hard to see
We're in heaven

Oh, once in your life you find someone
Who will turn your world around
Bring you up when you're feeling down

Now, nothing could change
what you mean to me
there's a lot that I could say
But just hold me now
Cause our love will light the way

[Chorus]

I've been waiting for so long
For something to arrive
For love to come along

Now our dreams are coming true
Through the good times and the bad
Yeah, I'll be standing there by you

Annoyed..

Nakakainis ah. This certain someone kept on saying "you always take pictures" lagi lagi na lang when she sees me para syang pang-asar na bakit daw ang dami-dami kong ina-upload na pictures sa facebook ko. Eh what a F, hindi pa nga lahat ng mga pictures ko eh andun 1/4 lang ang mga uploads ko dun. Anyway, my point is it's not any of her business noh! Bakit ba nangengealam sya! Eh i love taking pictures eh! Nakaka-ewan ang mga taong mahilig makialam! Nakaka-taas ng blood pressure! Hay naku!

Feel like listening to this song right now.

Boy - Timmy Cruz

Haay mas magaganda talaga ang mga kanta noon. I love everything about the 80's, the songs and even the movies. Sometimes tuloy I feel like I'm a 30-something trapped in a 20-something-year-old body. Haay....

Now I can't sleep because of that Starbucks iced coffee.

Oh what a night....Di ako makatulog....

Fly high against the sky...

credit to [http://media.photobucket.com/image/full moon/thorhunt/moon.jpg]

I'm on-call for work again. It really seems like this past couple of weeks, the census in the hospital is lower compared to the months of december through march. Hmm..I wonder why. Moms are not having that many babies around this time.

When I first started working in november til around march, it was always busy in our OB unit and was usually overloaded with mom/baby couplets at those times. Starting april, we started to slow down until the present time. *knock on wood though, I don't want to jinx it!** But I noticed in many occasions that it's especially busy, as in crazy-busy when it is a full moon. I overheard my co-worker yesterday at work that it was crazy-busy shift last saturday just because it's "full moon". Then again my curiosity about this "full moon" thing spiked up again. It made me research for what this superstitious belief is all about...that labors and births are high when it is a full moon.

This is what I got from this website:

"While these expectant mothers visiting the clinic with their mistaken signs of labor are part of the reason why extra staff are needed, the major difference is found in the number of women whose amniotic sac — the water — breaks. Just as some women experience false labor pains, in cases where the water breaking marks the start of childbirth, full moon is the time when it’s most likely to happen...On checking this against a moon phase chart, I discovered that almost all had given birth on, or very close to, a full moon. The theory is that the moon’s gravitational pull effects the amniotic fluid in much the same way as it effects the water in the sea, rivers and even the water that’s otherwise found in our bodies."

http://childbirth.amuchbetterway.com/the-moons-effect-on-natural-childbirth/]

Isn't it interesting that the gravitational pull can affect the amniotic fluid inside the mom's womb that similarly affects the vast body of water in the earth like the waters in the ocean? That's just amazing though there's no statistics or scientific explanation to prove this.

Spirit Gram

I was given another spirit-gram yesterday at work. The good thing about being a nurse is when someone appreciates your care. It is priceless and very rewarding especially when your given care is being recognized.

Aww..It means a lot to me. smile

“During a d/c phone call, a patient complimented you on the care you gave her." wink

Oh, also the Joint Commissions did the survey in our hospital 2 weeks ago. And according to their review, we did an excellent job in every categories, quality patient care, good end-of-shift report, and good time-out, etc. That's just WOW! And our nurse manager is throwing a barbeque to all of the staff this saturday, but boo I'm working that day!

Couple of months ago, we also received a very good score of 97% on "Patient Satisfaction" survey that we conduct after the patient gets discharged. It means that majority of our patients will most likely recommend us to other people and will most likely return to our hospital for their care. And part of that, the whole perinatal unit including the Labor and Delivery staff and Nursery staff and Obstetrics staff gathered up to take a photo and this was published in our local newspaper here.

And we have this displayed on the frame in the hallway. Just took a quick snapshot of it using my b-berry. wink

This made me freak-out last night!...

I was going to burn a cd, but apparently the cd did not register in my mac. It was unreadable and could not load. I tried to eject it but nothing happened. Tried couple of times, but it still won't eject it. Gosh darn, the cd was stuck!!! redfacemad I restarted my Mac hoping that it will finally eject it..but nope! It's almost impossible to manually eject a cd/dvd in MacBook Pro because it doesn't have an eject button. I tried to keep my cool and googled possible fix to this. And I came across this site. I took a gift card and followed what he said in his article:

"So I used a little trick, I inserted a small piece of thin battery pack cardboard just above the disc and twisted it (the cardboard) a little so the disk can’t spin when starting up. I turned the computer on and held down the trackpad button. I could hear the sound of the optical drive inside, not the spinning sound but rather sound of something moving ever so slightly. I heard it only two times and the third sound was a well known one - the offending DVD came out."

So I used a gift card and inserted it in the slot trying to stop the cd from spinning couple of times. Then I pressed the eject button. Then the stupid cd finally came out. Gosh darn!

Whew! Thanks for this article! Truly a lifesaver! Now my new macky is back to normal. Whew! Omg that was just scary. Sheez..

Never too late

I didn't get to record a song for Mother's day, but it's never too late to post it now, is it?

Here it is K, here's my post-Mother's day song.

It always gives me goosebumps singing this song. Very powerful lyrics.

Here's my version..Now I have to let my mom hear this when I get back home. hihi..

Wind beneath my wings

Ohhhh...
It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way.
You always walked a step behind.

So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strain.
A beautiful face without a name for so long.
A beautiful smile to hide the pain.

Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
I would be nothing without you.

Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be.
I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

Did I ever tell you you're my hero?
You're everything, everything I wish I could be.
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

Oh, the wind beneath my wings.
You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings.
Fly, fly, fly away. You let me fly so high.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings..

Lunch: Beef Kaldereta

I've been craving for beef kaldereta for a couple of days now, but there's no Filipino restaurant around here in my area so I decided to make my own na lang.

Went to the grocery store this morning to buy the ingredients. I usually cook it using the kaldereta mix, but I just have to make it from scratch this time.

Like I've said before, I'm gonna share some of my cooking adventures here in my blog cuz I'm planning to make a book out of all my recipes one day and use it for my own benefit para di ko rin makalimutan.

So here I'm sharing my own version of beef kaldereta. Enjoy! (kahit sa picture man lang)

What I need...(di ko na sasabihin ang exact amount ng mga ito kc it depends naman to your taste how much you wanna put)

beef cut into cubes
onion
tomato
garlic
olive oil
pineapple juice
liverwurst or liver paste
soy sauce
knorr beef bouillon
tomato sauce
tomato paste

vetsin
red chilli peppers
green bell pepper
red bell pepper
green peas

potatoes
carrots

sharp cheese

First off, I bring the beef to boil kasi beef takes a while until tender. Then, drain the water to get rid of too much grease. While boiling, I use this time to prepare the veggies..

Chop the onions and tomatoes...

..the bell peppers and carrots, and potatoes

After done preparing, I take the beef out of the casserole and transfer it to a frying pan. Pour like 2 tsb of olive oil then I fry the beef turning it until it's brown.

When it's brown, I transfer it back to the casserole.

Add the onions, garlic and tomatoes.

Pour 2-3 cups of pineapple juice. I use pineapple juice instead of water to get that tangy taste.
[Usually nga dapat marinate ng overnight ang beef sa pineapple juice para mas tasty but I just didn't have time to do that.]

Bring to a boil...

Add the potatoes..

and carrots..

..and green peas..this is optional by the way.

And let it simmer for like 5 mins..

Add tomato paste and tomato sauce. Also add bay leaves, soy sauce, vetsin, red chilli peppers, beef bouillon to taste. Another optional ingredient is liverwurst or liver paste.

Brng to boil and simmer again until the veggies are cooked..

Lastly, add sharp cheese then bring to a boil.

Serve it with freshly cooked white rice.

There it is my beef kaldereta for lunch! Yum!

Thinking of you

- Yesterday at work, I was called by one of the OB doctors to assist him to do a circumcision procedure in my newborn patient. I had to stop whatever I was doing and come to the nursery to prepare. I felt like I was being put into a hot seat! Geez, what a nerve-wracking experience!!! I almost panicked because I've never assisted in a circumcision procedure before, heck I've never even seen one! Good thing one of the NICU nurses helped me out since I cannot practice it without even getting trained first. Sheez...

Circumcision is the removal of some or all of the foreskin (prepuce) from the penis.[1] The word "circumcision" comes from Latin circum (meaning "around") and cædere (meaning "to cut").

I took the baby from the mom and all the consent papers signed. I put the baby in the cirum-restraint board to be able to tie baby's legs and arms. It looks like this....

Then, had to swaddle the baby tight, and the way my coworker showed me was to dip the baby's pacifier into a "sweet-ease" (this is a sucrose solution we use to calm the baby down) and swaddle the baby from the chest to secure the pacifier in the mouth. Then it'll be easier for the doc to do the procedure with a calmer baby.

Then I had to prepare the Lidocaine 1% solution in a 27 gauge syringe. This is to numb the baby in the area because you-know-what's-gonna-happen-next.

The doc came and injected the Lidocaine into the baby's penis. And he did the Gomco procedure to perform the circumcision. Aww..

Oh my gosh I was super shocked talaga! I feel so bad for the little baby! At least this happened when he's still unaware of the pain. Of course the pain is real, and he feels the pain but I believe this is better than doing the procedure when he's older like a teenager and when he's more aware of things. Aww I feel so bad for the little boy, but it has to be done.

Poor baby..

- Got this from Chris' blog that he got from someone else's blog. Don't know who Bob Ong is, but it cracks me up reading it, hehehe...

21 Utos ni Bob-Ong

21. “Ang pag-ibig parang imburnal…nakakatakot mahulog…at kapag nahulog ka, it’s either by accident or talagang tanga ka.

Exploring the little town

I had the day-off today and got a surprise call from my friend/coworker Leah. She was put on-call today so we decided to grab some lunch. She said her roommate knows and recommended a good Thai place around her area in Pismo beach, well actually it's by Los Osos that's close to San Luis Obispo. Her roommate specifically said that it's the "best pad thai in the world" lol..so Leah and I were very excited to try this place.

Leah drove and it took us like 15-20 mins driving in middle of the fields in the middle of nowhere..We thought we were getting lost. I tell you it was like a little adventure! Kinda reminiscent of our little adventure we had when we went to New Mexico for our job interview last year! [To refresh your memory, here's a related entry from last year.]

Then we finally got there after forever. Sheeez..

As the name says it, "Little Thai Take-Out Noi's". Smallest restaurant ever..But it does look very authentic. I felt like I was in a different country. Strange.

Anyway, we both thought that it was a dine-in place but we were thrown-off because it was a very small "take-out" restaurant. There were bunch of chairs/tables outside if people want to eat outdoors.

Another pad thai treat...

another Thai iced tea goes with that.

It was good pad thai but I won't call it necessarily as the "best pad thai in the world" lol..I've tasted far better than this one.

After lunch, there's a farmer's market nearby and we decided to take a look...

I've never been to one before so I said okay let's go..

walnuts, etc.

strawberries

my love, flowers..

ganda di ba?

It was nice window shopping. I wish I had brought some cash so I got to buy some stuff.

Then off we went to find our way back, temperature dropped and it was super foggy. On the right side we saw the ocean...very spooky ocean!!!

I don't know if you can see it but it's white. It was so foggy and the water was white! (It made me feel like I'm inside the "Silent hill" movie. You'll know what I'm talking about if you've seen it!) I went down the car and took a picture of it. And went back inside the car quickly because it was freaky looking at the vast body of water that's not blue. Am i making sense here? Anyway, after Leah and I finished laughing at ourselves for scarying ourselves out, we realized it was probably a marshland. But sheez if you saw it, it was really weird, kinda freaky..

That was our little day in the countryside.

Anyway, after that we headed to Gottschalks because they had some good closing sales. 70% off on everything! It's too bad most of the stores are closing...To name a few, Mervyn's, Circuit City, Lines and Things. And some restaurants that I like, some branches of TGI Fridays and my Irish resto favorite Bennigans. Aww. :(

It was another spontaneous day I must say.

My favorite song/LSS of the moment

I don't really listen to the radio here since most of the songs are hip-hop and rap. Eew and I don't listen to those kind of songs. So this is probably an old song by now but I just heard it earlier while shopping..

I didn't like Katy Perry's "I kissed a girl" but this track actually caught my attention. I really like how she sang it. Though she pronounces some words and I don't understand. But anyway, she's got her style, pure of emotion and I can feel her pain..I guess second best is all I will know. Aww..

Thinking of you
(Katy Perry)

Comparisons are easily done
once you've had a taste of perfection
like an apple hanging from a tree
i pick the ripest one
i still got the seed

you said move on
where do i go?
i guess second best is all i will know

cause when i'm with him i am thinking of you
thinking of you
what you would do if
you were the one who was spending the night
oh i wish that i was looking into your eyes

you're like an indian summer in the middle of winter
like a hard candy with a surprise center
how do i get better once i've had the best
you said there's tons of fish in the waters
so the waters i will test

he kissed my lips
i taste your mouth ohh
he pulled me in,
i was disgusted with myself

cause when i'm with him i am thinking of you
thinking of you
what you would do if
you were the one who was spending the night
oh i wish that i was looking into your

the best and yes i do regret
how i could let myself let you go
now, now the lessons learned
i touched and i was burned
oh i think you should know

cause when i'm with him i am thinking of you
thinking of you
what you would do if
you were the one who was spending the night
i wish that i was looking into your your eyes
looking into your eyes
looking into your eyes
why won't you walk through and
bust in the door and
take me away oh no more mistakes
cause in your eyes i'd like to
stay,staaaaayyyyyyy

Mandarin Orange Chicken

One time I was having my dinner break at work, and I was eating this orange chicken that I cooked. It was not really made from scratch. I got the mixed pack (I forgot the exact brand) in the store and all I had to do really was fry it and mix with the sauce. While eating, my coworker came in...

Coworker: Oooh smells good! Did you make that?
Me: Yup. I got it from the store. It was the ready-made one. All i needed to do was fry it.
Coworker: Did you get it from Trader Joe's?
Me: Nope..
Coworker: Ooh you should try the one from Trader Joe's. It's really really good!

Then she walked out the door.

Since she emphasized and promoted the one from Trader Joe's, I made sure to grab the orange chicken the next time I went grocery shopping there.

Trader Ming's Mandarin Orange Chicken

And today I decided to cook it for lunch since I was called-off for work...

I'm gonna share the step by step on how I did it. I'm also planning rin kasi to make a book out of all my cooking recipes out of this site. So I want to start collecting some pictures now. At para na rin I won't forget how I cooked some dishes, minsan kasi nakakalimutan ko rin, hehehe..

This is my first post on sharing some recipes or my cooking adventures - that's when I have the time to cook. Just for fun lang! ;)

Ito ang una kong isha-share. This one's really simple lang naman.

Pour some vegetable oil in the skillet. Pero I prefer olive oil instead kasi mas marami syang benefits against heart disease, colon cancer, etc. And I also use it as salad dressing sometimes.

Then put the frozen chicken in the skillet.

Just have to fry the chicken and turn it until it turns crispy golden brown.

The package comes with 2 frozen bags of orange chicken sauce. The way I do it is just pour it over the chicken when they're already crispy golden brown.

Then just mix it til the sauce melts over the chicken.

Then I added some black pepper and garlic powder to taste.

Almost done. I had to let it simmer for a while for like 5 minutes.

I take this time to get ready my freshly cooked white rice and make my Thai iced tea.

Then here it is..my finished product! Together with my Thai iced tea. Yum!

It was good nga! Tama ang coworker ko..masarap sya!

Yummmm!!!

Till my heart aches end

Rumor had it the other day at work that a boy got admitted in our hospital with a Swine flu. Of course everyone panicked. Then the next day, the management sent a note to all the employees saying there's no confirmed cases yet here in the Central Coast. Whew, thank God.

I'm mostly scared because majority of our patients is 80% Mexicans. And most of them come fresh from Mexico. So now all we can do is take extra precautions to protect ourselves.

Here's the info I got from CDC (Centers for Disease Control) website:

What You Can Do to Stay Healthy
* Stay informed. This website will be updated regularly as information becomes available. * Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.

* Take everyday actions to stay healthy.
o Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

o Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.

o Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way. o Stay home if you get sick. CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

* Follow public health advice regarding school closures, avoiding crowds and other social distancing measures.

* Develop a family emergency plan as a precaution. This should include storing a supply of food, medicines, facemasks, alcohol-based hand rubs and other essential supplies.

* Call 1-800-CDC-INFO for more information

My coworkers believe that this is some kind of media hype. Thousands of people die from HIV, regular influenza, or even die in the freeway everyday but it's not really much publicized. I don't know..But I believe..bottomline is, we all just have to be extra cautious and better to be safe than sorry! Di ba?

Till my heart aches end

(Ella Mae Saison)

I recall when you said that you would never leave me
you told me more so much more like when the time you whispered
in my ear there was heaven in my heart
i remember when you said that you'd be here forever
then you left without even saying that you're leaving
i was hurt and it really won't be easy to forget
yesterday and i pray that you would stay
but then you're gone and oh so far away

i was afraid this time would come
i wasn't prepared to face this kind of hurting from within
i have learned to live my life beside you
maybe i'll just dream of you tonight
and if into my dream you come and touch me once again
ill just keep on dreaming
till my heartaches end

and then you left without even saying that you're leaving
i was hurt and it really won't be easy to forget
yesterday and i pray that you would stay
but then you're gone and oh so far away

i was afraid this time would come
i wasn't prepared to face this kind of hurtin from within
